And what is there not to love? The central subject matter is that of a well poised and beautiful young woman holding a vibrant bouquet of coral peach and pale yellow roses. She is dressed in a ruffled, somewhat white, dress which she chooses to wear off the shoulder. She has brown hair and brown eyes which may be showing a little too dark in the photos. She is surely dignified and exhibits confidence in her expression.
Her facial features are stunning and she stands in front of a backdrop that looks like sculpted Victorian wall covering. The celluloid is in very good condition and has but one corner chip, otherwise it is stable with no lifting or peeling anywhere. The original brass hardware is in good sound condition, it is complete and in proper working order. The exterior of the pages are lush in gold gilt, looking pristine and as new, so nice to find them well preserved. The portrait is surrounded with raised embossed vines of what looks similar to acorns and oak leaves. Then there is a wide diamond shaped border in the color tone of a coral peach. The corners are further decorated with raised embossed designs and overlap a coloring of soft forest green. The photo of the clasp shows this green color the best and truest.
As you can see from this close-up how pretty the raised decorative features are. The photo that shows the acorn like berries also shows a tiny craze line in the raised stem. This is barely visible to the eye. I had to take a very close photo, to magnify it, so you could view it. This craze line does not go through the celluloid, it is not peeling or lifting, in fact, I detect no weakness in the celluloid, either in this area or any other. Except for the corner chip that I mentioned and show below, the celluloid is in great shape and is much nicer than many celluloid albums I see.
The spine and binding are in excellent, secure condition. The spine and back side of the album is covered with a purple floral velvet that has lost it's nap on the spine and around the perimeter of the back side. The fabric is secure, it is not tearing, it is simply in the condition that is more commonly found on these antique Victorian albums. There are 14 interior pages that hold 28 photos approx. 4 by 6 inches in size. The pages are decorated with wide gold stenciled designs and sprays of green leaves arching around the photo areas. The interior has been used and has the usual slot tears and paper flaws, some names written on some pages but lots of the pages are still in very fine, well kept condition. This album measures 10¼ inches from top to bottom, 8¼ inches wide and is 2 inches thick. I believe you will find this album to be quite enchanting and easy to love, thank you for taking the time to look at it and giving it your consideration, it's a very worthy album.
