Now, I really must say how lovely this Art Nouveau maiden is, she possesses a natural beauty that is not seen often on an album of this type. I'm showing you lots of photos so you can judge how really gorgeous she is. Her long flowing hair is clipped with barrettes of Dahlia type flowers, her neck is adorned with an exquisite neckpiece of the times and her stylish dress is draped off her shoulders. Her dreamy bedroom eyes and dainty poised lips give her an alluring presence. She is positioned forward, with the backdrop being a water color style country scene. As good as my photos are, you can expect this album to look even better and more crisp in person, you will love it. The colors are quite dynamic, lively and perky. The central portrait is surrounded with some delightful embossed decorations, lattice, Cyclamen flowers and notice the heart above her head, this is a very attractive album and the colors are showing good in my photos.
The celluloid front cover is in extra nice condition, no cracking, crazing or lifting of the celluloid, there isn't even any significant chipping of the corners. There are a few small and very minor discolors but because of the intensity of the background tones, your will have to look closely to find them. The background to the portrait offers purple lavender violets against a molted deep ruby red. The original bright brassy hardware is complete and in good working order. The exterior of the page edges maintain an ample amount of the original gold gilding and allow the outer pages to stand out. The spine and backside of the album is covered with a plum purple and lavender velvet, which is in remarkable condition for it's age, not too much wear, just a bit here and there. The velvet is excellent, in my opinion, the binding of the album is very stable and is holding the pages in place quite well. The interior is more than charming, having each page decorated with pink Cyclamen flowers. There are 15 pages, 13 of them will hold 26 photos at the approx. size of 4 by 6 and the last 2 pages will hold 16 smaller photos. Their are the usual occasional slot tears and perhaps some foxing here and there, but overall, the interior is in very respectable condition. The original owner saved any slot tears that let go and placed them in a plastic bag for future taping. Most of the pages are awaiting your photos but there is still a scattering of old photos in the album.
This fabulous antique Art Nouveau portrait celluloid album measures 10 inches in height by 8 in width and is 2 inches thick. This album has good solid weight and is simply stunning. The bottom of the cover might look darker but that is just the reflection of my dark shirt. This album is uniform in color, the gold gilt highlights are in good condition, it's really hard to find them in this extra nice form. Again, this celluloid album is nicer in person, you'll enjoy adding it to your treasury of finer antiques.
