These decorative features are slightly raised, the petals of the flowers are very well defined and a bit tinted in color tone here and there. The embossed designs are on a deep forest olive green color which may not be showing too well in my photos. The embossed elements are in a creamy color, they are bordered in an antique gold outline and pop off the deeper green background very nicely. The celluloid is in excellent condition, no chips, holes, cracks or damages at all and barely a bump at the corner. Perhaps it has a scuff and a few scratches when tipped to the light but nothing overly noticeable. This album was difficult to photograph, please excuse all the reflections, it was unavoidable. The exterior of the pages are maintaining most of their gold gilt and they look wonderful. The brass closure is completely intact and in proper working order. The spine and binding are secure and in good shape. The spine and the back side of the album are covered in a multi toned green Victorian velvet which is in very acceptable condition, I think it's great. Of course, it shows wear to the nap on the spine and just a tad bit on the back side edges but, for the most part, it is very nice. Now, I'm showing you several photos of the interior. Even though the binding is tight and suffers no problems, the pages were starting to let go from the binding so I decided to tape them with some brown tape before they could get any worse. I did 2 layers for added security, helping to make this album more easily useable again. The photo above looks like there is a picture in it but this is a facsimile image that was transposed from the original photograph that was in that slot, how interesting. You'll find a few of these duplications in the album. There are 15 pages that hold 4 photos each at approx. 4 by 6 inches in size. The pages are sweetly decorated with delicate baby blue flowers and gold stenciling.
There are a few names written on the pages and some script on one page but mostly the pages are very nice. I think there are only two photo areas that have slot tears or missing slot paper. The inside of the album suffers very little, overall, it's quite nice. This is a heavy album and measures a little larger at 12 inches from side to side, 10 inches from top to bottom and is at least 2 inches thick. If you can accept that the pages have been re-enforced with tape, you will have an antique Victorian celluloid photo album that will offer a great space for your family photos. The album is strong with a good binding, great celluloid, nearly perfect gold gilt pages and a complete clasp, please consider putting this album back into service.
