This antique glove box will arrive in extra fine condition. It has a soft and warm appearance, displaying a water scene with adjoining violets. The landscape is against a creamy ivory tone along with shadings of pale greenish blue. The central view is flanked with raised embossed scrolling details and the remainder of the box has a generous scattering of raised embossed floral designs. This box is different, in that it is completely covered with celluloid, not like the more common boxes that have paper layering the bottom portion and sides of the box. This box is in very well kept condition, with no cracking, crazing or lifting of the celluloid, but it does have some discolor at the outer corners, outer edges and one discolor on the top, at the outer side, where the raised floral is, all which I find reasonably acceptable for it's over 100 years of age.
The violets are a pretty addition to the scenery but you can expect the actual look of this album to be much crisper and clearer in person. The second photo shows the scenery at it's best. Although my photos are good, they are not representing this box to show as vivid as it really is. The raised flower is showing well in this photo, there are four of these on the top of the box and they are against a caramel colored background. The flowers are in great shape, without damages.  
These next group of photos show the exterior corners, please excuse any reflections. I chose to show you these corners because they exhibit the worst of the corner staining. and the represent the box well. These picture also let you see that the celluloid is all very well adhered to the box, not like what you normally find with the celluloid lifting and separating away from the edges. The celluloid on this box is all secure, actually surprisingly so. There is a little moisture staining at the very top ends but it's really not much and not very noticeable. The sides of the box are covered in an ivory tone, meant to match the color background of the scene. The front and sides are also embossed in classic Victorian designs, which add much character to the box.
The box maintains all of it's original hardware, which is in excellent working order. The interior of the box has it's original silk interior, which shows all of it's age and frailties. I can't imagine that it would be very difficult to reline a box like this but I prefer to leave it original and let the next owner decide it's fate. I do have a variety of vintage silks and could consider relining this box. I've never done one but I'm good at relining antique purses so I'm accustomed to working with silk and custom patterns. The bottom of the box is stable with it's old paper covering. This antique celluloid glove box measures over 12 inches in length by 3½ in depth from front to back and it is over 2½ in height. This Victorian glove box has a lot to offer: intact and secure celluloid, all original components and a charming and pleasant scene, please consider adding it to your dresser top.
