I call this artistically fascinating rendering 'the lady at the rock". I offered this scene, on a hand mirror, once before in the past but the artwork was not nearly as delightfully portrayed as it is here and I did not have the hair brush to accompany the hand mirror, so this set is a true treat indeed. I think my photos speak volumes for the quality of the transfer decorated porcelain backs and their very satisfying condition. The porcelain suffers no cracks, hairlines or chips and the artwork itself is very respectable, with wee, if any, scratching to the paint, nothing noticeable or obvious at all. Please excuse any light reflections that may have bounced off the porcelain during photographing. There is an abundance of detail on this set, so please look closely at all my photos and determine that this set is destined to be on your vanity or dresser top. This close-up view of the scene shows a beautiful barefooted woman leaning upon a rock and gazing down into the water. Her rather scanty attire is draping off her shoulders as if she is preparing to bathe in the stream or lake. The scenery is rich is nature's bounty of color and is encircled with a glowing band of gold gilt, hand painted pinky white flowers, all set on a baby blue border. There is very little loss to the hand painted details, just a tad bit on the gold gilt border but nothing that is distracting or irritating, in my opinion. The heavily embossed rims and open looped handles are marked German Silver, which is a lovely nickel based metal that generally polishes up well. I did clean and polish this set to the best of my ability but I do confess, the tarnish was a bit stubborn and still remains in the deeper crevices throughout the set, giving these dresser pieces an authentic antique appearance. There is little in the way of small dents, a few here and there on the hair brush rim and handle and only a few minute shallow showings on the hand mirror, overall, quite lovely, nothing naughty.
The original beveled mirror has remained with the hand mirror, it does show some aging as seen above along with a nice clear reflective image. It's always nice to be able to keep the original mirror and I do not feel that is it time to replace this one, as it is still very usable despite it's aging. The hair brush natural bristles have seen better days, although their color tone is still very good. It is so fabulous to have this accessory piece to accompany the hand mirror, it is easy to forgive it's aged look. These hair brushes are always advertised for decorative use only, so it will serve it's purpose as a superb ornamental accessory. The workmanship on this set is outstanding and the condition is able to be easily appreciated. This antique Art Nouveau hand mirror and brush set measures as follows: the mirror is approx. 91/4 inches in length with a 5 inch viewing surface, the brush is proportionately a little smaller. If you like what you see in my photos, you will adore owning this vanity set, it's wonderfully charming in every way and has maintained a desirable condition.
