From the approx. 1940 era, this coin purse was
hand made in France with embroidery known as Tambour, in the Point de Beauvais
stitch. |

Some of my photos make it appear as if this piece is dusty but I assure you, this change purse is clean and to the naked eye, perfectly preserved. The background fabric is a classy and quality jet black satin, very nice feel to this change purse. The hand stitched French embroidery has crisp and bright colors, in blues, pinks, burgundies and more. The embroidery suffers no snags, pulls or other issues, it all looks lovely and like it was just made. The gusset, that is the bottom and sides of this coin purse, is especially generous in size, measuring 3/4 of an inch in depth and that is considered large for a change purse. A wider gusset allows for a little extra space inside. As seen below, there is also a wonderful jet black piping around the edges, that pulls all the panels together securely. The gold tone or plated brassy metal framing is still nice and shiny with the perfect amount of aged patina, it's quite nice. The clasp is hidden on the interior of the purse, it does close securely, and I did, somehow, forget to photograph the interior, I will have to do that soon. The exterior pierced and open filigree balls are well attached and are primarily decorative in nature. The nearly white interior satin lining looks clean and spotless, as if it were an unused change purse. There is a stenciled label inside this purse and it denotes that it is hand made in France. Stuffed with tissue, as shown, this elegant little French black satin and embroidered coin purse measures 3 inches in height, 3 1/2 across the widest and 3 inches across the frame. This is really a charming little piece, I don't get many of these in this superior condition.
