Blue is the hardest color to photograph so keep in mind that the 1st photo may be the closest to reality. The camera wanted to express a pinkish tone of streaks on the compact that is actually not very prevalent in person, nonetheless, I could not stop the camera from showing it. I know the color is there a tiny bit but it is not very visible in person. I've never seen this color of mother-of-pearl on a compact before, it is stunning and if blue is one of your favorite colors, you will adore this vintage 1940's powder compact. It's totally blue, no green tones in this piece, at least, not that I detect. The Marhill Company made a lot of mother-of-pearl compacts, I wouldn't be surprised if this is one of their creative pieces.
The interior is in nice clean condition with just a small scratch and very wee signs of aging. The powder well looks like it has never held powder, it is clean and spotless. The beveled mirror shows a nice clear image along with very minor signs of aging and a tiny chip out of the upper left corner which has no effect on it's usefulness. The closures, both inside and out, work properly and all aspects of this compact are in sound operating condition. This compact has a lot of charm and personality, it's dynamic, you will be enamored by it's beauty.
The mother of pearl is enhanced with a small grouping of Tambour embroidered flowers executed in the Pointe de Beauvais stitch. In addition, radiating from the embroidery, is a spray of hand painted white star-like decorations enhanced with sparkling glitter. The ornamentation gives it a starburst appearance and is quite lovely, especially with the dashes of glitter. I think it's previous owner must have been quite taken by this compact, as it is extremely well cared for and preserved, obviously has not been used. It no longer has it's powder puff but everything else is darling, the color is as dynamic as blue can get and the intense striations to the pearls are superb. This 1940's vintage powder compact measures 2¾ inches by 2⅜ inches and has about ⅜ of an inch of depth. It will look striking on your vanity or in your compact collection, please consider it today. The second of the last photo also shows the coloring rather well.
