Although this particular compact is unmarked, most of the compacts in this collection were clearly stamped made in Austria and I assure you, this compact was indeed hand stitched in Austria. Every color is soft and serene, even the more deeper purples have a gentleness to them. My photos are very good and show you exactly what to expect, at least on my screen. The tones on this compact might seem somewhat faded but they are not, the tones are what they were intended to be, soft and calming. The lovely bouquet of roses, violets and light blue forget-me-nots are set against an antiqued ivory background shade. The bouquet is lovely and covers the greater portion of the compact lid. A thin twisted cord was used as an accent, around the outer edge, as it tucks the petit point inside of the lid and that is seen in my photos. 
 This compact is flawless, in fact, it is unused with a perfectly clear beveled mirror, a clean powder puff and loose screen. It has been properly stored for many a decade and you will simply adore owning it. The interior is wonderful and spotless, as shown. The powder puff and screen are in pristine, unused condition. The mirror is still clear and reflects well.
The brassy toned frame is lovely and basically still nice and bright. The outer metal perimeter of the case is beautifully etched and the barrel clasp closes with a solid snap. The exterior backside is covered with an off white soft leather like material. I cannot say for certain that it is leather but it surely feels like it and the Austrians were known for using leather with their petit point pieces. This 1940 - 1950 Austrian loose powder compact is perfection, I find not one fault to mention. This compact measures a full 3 inches in diameter and is a sweet vintage purse or vanity accessory. I've been listing pieces from this New York collection over the course of several years, I don't have many left, so if you enjoy quality Austrian petit point and unused powder compacts, you will enjoy this perfect combination and be proud to place it on her vanity or pull it from her favorite purse.
