Most porcelains did not have to be stamped with the country of origin until The McKinley Tariff Act of 1891, therefore, I believe this piece was produced prior to 1891. When you examine this cachepot, you will be able to determine that the artist was fully qualified, having more talent than most painters. The precision to the details in the scene are unmatched and surpass all expectations. My photos are very good, however, there is the occasional light reflection that must be ignored. This depiction of a young girl sitting atop a country styled fence is as charming as can be found. The scene is flanked with gold borders, which are all strong and complete.
The degree of detail to her facial expressions and brown hair are unbelievable. Her expression even seems to change depending on the angle that you look at her. She wears a heavily gathered, ruffled and flounced bonnet with a big bow tied under her chin. The white rupffled border has a lot of raised dotted detailing. Her sweet green dress has a flower pattern and when you pass your hand over the paint, it's all raised and pronounced, very realistic artwork. She carries a brown Victorian reticule styled velvet bag. The generous amount of greenery, growing about the fence, adds a nice warm touch. This cachepot sits steady on 4 pink ball feet and the 2 front feet are highlighted with a gold gilt half circle band. The feet are in very good solid condition and suffer no problems or issues, nor any repairs. The underside of the pot has a very unique hand applied artist signature or mark. It's a very unusual mark, I haven't seen it before, and depending on how you look at it, has different appearances. This is a small mark but no doubt, intentionally placed there by the artist.
The sides and back are painted in a crisp pink tone, very feminine and girlie. The sides are enhanced with sculpted handles which have gold trimmings. This is a late 1800's French hand painted porcelain cachepot that will surely melt your heart. What a terrific gift it would make. It measures the more rarer and harder to find size of 6½ inches in height, 5 inches side to side and 2¾ inches front to back. This cachepot has a delightful shape, a bit of a scallop to the contour. Condition is wonderful, no damages, no wear, no apologies, just a great little treasure that is a true "one of a kind". I know you will adore owning this French antiquity. Look at all the photos very closely, they almost show this piece as wonderful as it really is.
