This dynamic purse is a combination of beaded elegance and a very rare and exquisite Hobe jeweled frame. These 2 designers, Hobe and Josef, shared their talents and produced a very limited number of these fabulous purses. This entire purse is hand made, covered in tiny gold glass beads, these beads are somewhat clear on the exterior but emit the radiance of gold from the interior of the bead. The close-up photos of the frame show the beads at their best, so please look closely at this lustrous beauty. I have arranged the photos in a sequence from front and back exposures for comparison purposes and clarity of what you can expect. I'm showing you lots of photos so you can detect it's true eloquence, style and high fashion.
The Hobe Company was esteemed for their unmatched quality and use of superior stones. This frame is set with 59 multi faceted, multi cut, oval and round deep golden topaz or golden citrine stones. They are open backed and each stone is placed in a solid pronged setting. The round stones are approx. 5/16th of a inch in diameter, the large ovals are 7/16th long by 5/16th wide, the smaller ovals are 5/16th of an inch long by ¼ of an inch wide. The stones are set at different angles and in different directions, offering much dimension to this purse frame. The height of the jewels, that is, as it sits on the arch of the frame, is 1⅛ inches tall and spans about 6 inches across in diameter and about 9 inches in circumference. The lift to open clasp is equally as wonderful, with 3 additional matching large ovals. I am hoping that the side profile photo is showing you that the frame is fashioned with an apparent curvy form. This is an intentional Hobe design element, the frame is not bent or distorted. The jewels and their settings are well soldered onto the arched frame, with no detachments or damages that I can find, either to the settings or to the stones. I have looked the stones over with a magnifying glass and I can't detect much in the area of scratches or wear of any sort. The golden brassy metal work has taken on a rich warm natural patina that is gorgeous, not much, if anything, in the form of obvious wear is present on the frame that I can detect with my eyes. The style of the bag is quite shapely and reminds me of the Victorian puffy purses but this purse is a little larger than the older puffies. Stuffed with tissue, this bag measures 5½ inches from the top of the jewels to the bottom, 9 inches at it's widest, the delicate French chain handle drops by a mere 3 inches, so this purse will carry as a clutch or with the chain on your fingers. The original ivory satin lining, with pocket and comb slot, suffers no tearing or problems, just some age discoloring on the pockets, as is common with vintage handbags. This entire purse has been professionally cleaned. I did repair a couple of very tiny snags in the beading, now I can't even find them. I did add a fresh thread, stitching the purse and lining more snugly to the frame, although it remains in place, the original thread was a bit stretched. This purse is very secure to the frame and in, what I consider, excellent vintage condition, no missing beads, no damages, no exterior staining, no tears or other apologies. If you like what you see in my photos, you will cherish this very special designer Josef and Hobe sophisticated vintage evening purse and likely consider it one of your favorites. Please place your order today, while this jewel is still available, you are not likely to find another.
