My photos do not exaggerate the color tones on this purse and they include a hot pink, a Wedgewood blue and a bright white, all on a rich and radiant gold enameled background. This interesting pattern is identical on both sides with only the slightest differences in the central theme, which is the wonderful Art Nouveau basket of florals. The small tiles are all intact, as is the enamel paint, I only see very minimal paint fading under magnification, to the eye, this purse is in splendid condition and very close to pristine. All the mesh is intact, no gaps or separations, this purse is remarkable. The bottom is skirted with an eight point Van Dyke fringe, it is equally as wonderful, without damages or problems. Now let's get on to talking about this divine and most unusual frame, quite rare indeed. The frame is silver toned but the exterior has what appears to be a soft gold wash. In the corners of the frame are these sweet delicate enameled red roses or similar flower, over a white wash. The central theme of 1¾ inches are these exquisite overflowing baskets of flowers or roses. They are especially breathtaking against the white washed background tone and are lovingly bordered with those swirling Nouveau designs. I am showing both sides of the frame and you will discover that the arrangement of roses are displayed differently from one side to the other. Once again, you will see very little wear on the artwork, just a tad bit but nothing that is intrusive or irritating. This early 1900's Whiting & Davis enameled mesh purse is larger than most, measuring generously at 7¾ from the tip of the clasp to the bottom of the fringe by 5 inches across the frame and the chain link handle drops the purse by 6½ inches. The interior is unlined, it has the little metal Whiting & Davis tag still attached at the frame, as is all the mesh, stable as it should be, without gaps, separations or losses. This mesh purse is clean, the enamel is gorgeous, the hinges and clasp are secure. This is a better than great mesh purse in superior condition, well preserved and structurally perfect, you will be pleased. It is a fascinating, rare example that surely may not be seen again.
