The sterling frame is gorgeous in every way with it's fully pierced and cut-out Art Nouveau flowers and acanthus leaf pattern. This is a substantially heavy frame, more so than most sterling purses I've offered. I do not have a scale so I cannot tell you the ounces but this purse has very solid weight to it. I do not sell my sterling purses by weight but rather according to what I had to pay to acquire them but when I hold it in my hand, it's fairly heavy. Overall, the sterling is relatively bright and well polished with minimal tarnishing, very fine for a purse of this age. It has been well kept throughout it's life and will be a great addition to your purse collection. This purse is well aligned and opens and closes properly.
The more unusual feature of this purse is it's dual sided interior, no doubt this also accounts for it's extra weightiness. As you can see this purse is well put together with exceptionally solid hinges and is very complete. I don't see any link detachments at the hinges but just to be safe, I'll say there is one, in case I missed it but I don't think so. I found a link detached at the very bottom of the purse and tried to capture it in the photo looking down inside the purse but I was unable to show it, as it is very minute. I don't see or acquire many of these dual sided sterling silver purses so this one is extra special and would make a thoughtful and generous gift.
Close inspection shows this accessory to be in very fine antique condition and clearly marked sterling with an arrowhead hallmark, as well as having the name of the original owner inscribed. I have not found the mark for the country of origin but I have handled several very similar purses in the past that have been marked Germany, I do believe this purse is likely German in origin. I've spent a fair amount of time researching sterling marks but I haven't come across it yet, if I do, I will update this listing to reflect that information.
These 2 photos show a good clear picture of the quality of the mesh and it's overall excellent condition, not pristine but very close to it. The actual purse is much richer looking in person, these photos really don't do this purse justice and don't display the true beauty and radiance of the silver. This purse measures 5 3/8 inches from the top of the kissing clasps to the bottom and it is 5 inches across the frame from side to side. The frame without the clasp is about 3/4 of an inch in height in the center area and the rather heavy chain link handle drops the purse by 5 1/2 inches. This is a stunning antique sterling silver mesh purse with a rich Art Nouveau frame. If you have been wanting to add a sterling silver purse to your collection, please consider this exceptional example with a dual sided interior. Thank you for your time.
