Wow, there is a lot to describe on this set, starting with the heavily detailed tray. The fabulous mold pattern is intricate and includes those scalloped corners and swirly feathered sculpted details. The shapely features are especially pleasing, so elegant and unusual. The gold gilt designs on these pieces are lush and abundant and include that fabulous lattice work, all showing only a little minor rubbing here and there at the edges, really nothing at all for a tray of this age. The hand painted artwork is so very well executed with graceful little floral bouquets, my photos are showing them very well. There are plenty of delicate shadings, raised dotted detailing and the central background tone is an antiqued ivory linen. The small pin dish is a sensational addition and matches the larger tray beautifully, measuring 5 by 3 inches. The large tray measures 11 by 8 inches, a nice size for any dresser or vanity. Now did I mention that the artist was thoughtful to sign and date this set, as shown, 1897, how great is that, I love it. The Haviland Company was well known for their exquisite Limoges porcelain works of art, and judging by this set, I can understand how they achieved their superb reputation. The condition of this set is very good for it's age, no cracks or hairlines. As I mentioned there is very little gold loss, there may be a bit of paint loss on some of the raised dotted detailing and there is a very minute rough spot, somewhere on the edge of the large tray, that is difficult to find. It could be a speck of a chip but there is a little gold on it so I can't say for sure. I inspected it under a magnifier and it seems very insignificant to me but if you are sooooo picky that you cannot accept these very minor flaws on a Haviland set from 1897, then you must pass on these delightful and radiant antique dresser accessories, otherwise, enjoy them, they are fantastic.
