This antique trencher has nice weight, not overly heavy and I do believe it is solid maple with tight growth lines. I love the shape as well as the varying thickness to the wood around the outer perimeter, thins down really nicely along the sides. The coloring to the wood is warm and rich with several brown tones that have an overall reddish tinge. This bowl, although likely carved by hand, is now completely smoothed with age and exhibits a wide range of character. The wood carver was thoughtful to add recessed finger slots to the backside, making great handles for this bowl. The underside has a little staining but nothing in my opinion that distracts in the least, it actually looks much worse in the photo than it really is. There are a few shallow notches in the upper edge and the expected scratches but overall the condition is splendid. There are no cracks or damages to this bowl, no breaks, cut marks or abuse, just a well loved and used dough bowl. I do believe that you will be more than pleased to own this piece of Americana workmanship. It measures a generous 21½ in length by 11½ in width and sits sturdy at varying height of up to 4 inches. This antique dough bowl is gorgeous and will look divine on your dining table, side board or kitchen Hoosier.
