I am delighted to offer you another outstanding extra large bread bowl from a Northport, New York estate, off the shores of Long Isaland.

Antique 1800's lathe turned 19 inch dough bread bowl

This fabulous hand lathe turned example was surely created during the later half of the 1800's and it has plenty of character to attest to it's age.

The coloring has several medium brown tones as well as some darker areas, a few spots and lots of character from decades of good honest usage. For added personality, you will also discover a fair amount a cut marks, looks like some cutting of vegetables went on in this bowl. However, considering it's age, there really aren't that many, just enough to give it appeal. This bowl shows that it was much loved and because of that, there are a few usage stains around the bowl, all adding to it's charisma. No doubt this bowl was also used  for the making of dough, as most of them were. There are a few bumps and bruises about the bowl but truly nothing that takes away from it's integrity nor are they overly apparent. This well made, hand turned, full service dough bowl is structurally reliable, having no damages, making it a superior investment quality American piece.

And the size is just amazing, measuring at just under 19 inches at it's widest by 18 1/2 inches in diameter, wonderfully out of round, exactly the way it should be. Another distinguished attribute of this bowl is it's 1 inch outer upper lip. It was thoughtful of the bowl maker to add this desired feature and it adds a beautiful accentuating effect to the bowl. And it doesn't end, there is a nice base to this bowl that allows it to sit good and steady at approx. 5 inches in height, give or take. This wood bowl, possibly made from ash or poplar, appears to be in it's natural raw state, without a finish applied or varnish of any kind. I am not an expert on wood so I can't say for sure the type of wood it is. I do know that it is not maple or pine. I did give it a gentle cleaning but added nothing to the wood, as I don't feel it needs anything. It has a good primitive feel, clean, no tackiness.

Antique 19 inch lathe turned dough bread bowl medium brown tones

I believe my photos show everything fairly accurately, including the various brown tones, darker shadings and all other traits, allowing you to make a proper judgment about this bowl. The condition is desirable with no issues to complain about. There are no cracks or hairlines in this bowl and for a 19 inch bowl, that's pretty exciting. This bowl, with it's primitive looking nature, is fairly smooth inside and out. You will have to look very closely, tipping the exterior to the light, to see any of the original lathe turning lines because this bowl has worn smooth with age.  If you have been searching for an 1800's primitive looking American hand turned dough bread bowl, please consider this extra large example, 19 inch bowls are getting harder to come by in this desired condition.
